Krystal
Loosing Krystal ......
This week I lost Krystal, a child who I have had in my class for just over a year. Krystal was by far one of the most draining students I have ever taught. A child of trauma she required more than daily check ins, she needed love, attention by the bucket load and constant reassurance. I really loved having Krystal in my class the majority of the time. She was such a pain at times but she was so sweet and just needed some strong guidance. She had such a good heart.
This term I worried about her after her youngest brother as born, you could see things start to change as she no longer became the centre of attention in her fathers life. She had some trouble sending nude pictures to some boys (who later distributed them else where) but the clincher at school came when she thought her friends didn't like her.
With a termbulent home life she decided for her moving in with mum was the best option and without warning she upped and left school. It was heart breaking to see her go, just out of thin air.
I have caught up with her dad since - she is still unenrolled in High School and he hasnt spoken to her, I just hope she doing ok and is safe!

PE! Term 3
Pe started off a bit stressful this term planning the Christchurch one day tournament on my own with 8 teams attending.
Organising transport to 4 venues over 50 children and 8 coaches for a full day proved a bit stressful, but I was pleased to be out there and see the day go off without a hitch.
Our boys YEAR 7 & 8 rugby placed 3rd in their competition and all other teams had a great day with lots of sportsman ship..
I was so happy when it was over! It was the biggest weight off my shoulder.
The next challenge was Koru Games, but that was only organising one venue and 12 kids so it seemed a bit easier!
They came 10th overall and played spectacularly well.

Wall Displays
Over the past two terms I have been really mindful about wall displays around the classroom.
I was reminded of their importance early in the term, when a student asked (after my fraction poster had fallen down) Where her cheat poster was - as she couldn't complete her worksheet without its friendly reminder.
Displaying work, posters, art, 'cheat sheets' and other relevant unit work is so important. It creates a sense of belonging and gives work a purpose. If its going to be displayed it must have to be good!
It also adds a great feel to the class.
Students Teaching Students
Feeling more comfortable teaching Maths this term - It has been interesting sitting back and watching my class teach each other what they know.
It has meant I can step in if they arent doing it right, or allow them to show case their own knowledge to others.
This is Brooke the other day explaining the Algebra rule to our group.
We have also used this alot in Buddy Time this term - especially with our Te Huarere Games. It was awesome seeing them interact and teach the younger students how to play!
Pegasus Meeting
In Week 6 we went to a PD meeting after school at Pegasus.
It was interesting to go to Engaging Maori Learners; as he was such a good speaker and was able to put an interesting spin on what you could already guess.
I also went to Anxiety and Trauma; it was interesting to know the back ground of anxiety - however I was looking for more information in this on how to deal with children with anxiety rather than just what anxiety was defined as. Either way it was interesting.
